Privacy and cookie policy
Updated on
What TCook stores, why it is used, and how to change your cookie choice.
Stored data and its purpose
| Data | Storage | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anonymous visitor ID (tcook_visitor_id) | Browser cookie; related identifiers on the server | With consent: avoid duplicate views within 30 minutes. When you actively like or review: associate that action with your browser so you can revisit and edit it, even if you reject view-tracking cookies. | Cookie: 1 year. View records: 90 days. Likes and reviews: while their content is retained. |
| Hosting traffic and performance statistics | Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights | Anonymous traffic and loading-speed measurement without personal identification cookies; always enabled. | According to the hosting provider's retention policy. |
| Saved and recently viewed recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and text size | Browser localStorage | Provide the features you use; this data is not sent to the server. | Until you clear the data on your device. |
| Cookie choice (tcook_consent) | Browser localStorage | Remember your choice, timestamp, policy version and withdrawal acknowledgement. | The choice is valid for 12 months or until the policy version changes. Stored data remains until replaced or cleared. |
| Counted recipe views (tcook_viewed) | Tab sessionStorage | Avoid counting reloads in the same session without consent. | Until the tab closes. |
| Newsletter email | Server | Send newsletters when you actively subscribe. | Until you unsubscribe or request deletion. |
| Display name, star rating and review text | Server | Display reviews and let you revisit and edit your own review. | While the content is retained; contact us to request deletion. |
Your choice
You can accept or reject the visitor ID used to avoid duplicate recipe views. Until you choose, TCook treats you as not consenting. Rejecting does not affect reading recipes, saving dishes or planning meals.
Open Cookie settings in the footer at any time. When you reject, TCook stops linking your ID to views and asks the server to detach it from existing view records. The cookie is deleted unless it is associated with reviews or likes; in that case it is kept only for those features. If the network is unavailable, withdrawal is retried on a later page load.
Recipe view data
TCook does not store IP addresses, browser user agents or referring pages in new recipe-view records. Legacy data in these fields expires under the existing 90-day retention period. Views without a visitor ID still contribute to the total.
Policy changes and contact
TCook asks you to choose again when this policy changes materially. Clearing your browser data also resets your choice.
